Geotechnical Investigation using Cone Penetration Testing (CPT)

In a parcel of land for a new development in Parish, FL

ATI Geologica completed five (5) Cone Penetration Tests to a depth of 30 feet to delineate soil stratigraphy. The tests were performed using a Geoprobe 7730DT anchored using two helical anchors. An electronic piezocone manufactured by Vertek was advanced at a rate of approximately 2 cm/s. The data was recorded using the Vertek DataPack and their proprietary software, CPTSND. The data was then processed using Vertek’s Coneplot to obtain the raw data and basic graphs and tables.

Five CPTs (B-1 to B-5) were performed to depths of between 32 and 37 feet below ground level (ft bgl). The tests were extended at no extra cost beyond the requested 30 ft depth because it was suspected during the testing that the very dense, weathered bedrock was located just below 30ft. Indeed, in sounding locations B3 and B4, the pushing limit of the rig was achieved at approximately 32.8 ft and 34.6 ft below surface respectively.

Each sounding ran continuously without disturbance or interruption and the data collected is considered to be accurate and representative of each respective location.

Results show that the site was waterlogged in places and the soils were wet from surface level. The materials presented mainly as mixes of sands, silty sands and sandy silts with rare clayey layers. Gravelly lenses/horizons were encountered in B-3 and B-4 at 32.6 and 34.3 ft bgl respectively. CPTs (B-1 to B-5) were performed to final depths between 32 and 37 feet below ground level (ft bgl).

The GeoLogismiki initial interpreted CPT data is presented in the image to the left.
