Spellman Superfund Site – Phase 1: Soil and Water Sampling and Installation of Monitoring Wells

Spellman Superfund Site – 722 Brookhaven Drive, City of Orlando, FL

The Ambient Technologies Drilling Team completed Direct Push Technology (DPT) Drilling, Soil & Water Sampling and Monitoring Wells installations, at the Spellman Site in the City of Orlando, Florida. The Former Spellman Engineering property is located at northeast of Lake Highland, Orlando, Orange County, Florida. The site includes light industrial, commercial, and residential properties. Spellman Engineering was a parts cleaning business that operated from approximately 1963 to 1969. The purpose of the investigation was to identify and delineate the nature and extent of industrial solvents in the soil and groundwater at the site.

The Scope of Work included 40 Soil Borings (direct push continuous macrocores sampling) and GW sample points up to 60-ft below land surface. This initial phase also included the installation of 6 monitoring wells (vertical and angled) were installed at the same depth (up to 60ft) for continuous monitoring of the following phases of the project.

Soil Borings were grouted and patched once completed. Monitoring Wells required development of up to 30 minutes. The key contaminant at this site was Trichloroethene (TCE).

Using a Geoprobe 7730DT, Ambient Technologies was able to accomplish the required Scope of Work within the time and budget allocated to this initial phase of the Spellman Site Project.

GeoView, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Ambient Technologies, provided private utility clearance for all soil borings and monitoring wells.
